Earl V. Sloan, Jr., 74, of Sherrard, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport.
Per Earl's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301-4th St., Orion. Military honors will be conducted by the Orion American Legion. Inurnment will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice, Davenport.
Earl was born January 1, 1934 in Galesburg, the son of Earl V. and Eva Cooksey Sloan, Sr. He graduated from the Galesburg High School where he was a cheerleader. He married Karen L. Blaser on June 1, 1956 in Lincoln, NE.
Earl was an architectural engineer for Design Build retiring in January of 2000. He was a Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) and the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). Ken Hopper and Earl were the two founding fathers of the Q. C. Airshow. He was an expert swimmer and diver. Earl was known as "Mr. Fix It" because he could fix anything. He enjoyed movies, especially airplane movies.
