Edward Blakely, 90, formerly of Milan and Preemption, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. John's Anglican Church in Preemption. There will be a one hour visitation immediately preceding the service. Burial will be at Preemption Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Anglican Church where he was a member. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Edward was born on October 10, 1921 in Milan, IL the son of William and Adah (Martin) Blakely. Henry and Lydia Blakely raised Edward from age 3 when his mother died. He graduated from Rock Island High School and received his Master's Degree from Augustana College. Edward worked as an Elementary Teacher retiring in 1975 and was a member of the NEA and IEA. He was also a substitute teacher, an organist at various churches, and gave piano lessons. Edward was a WWII Navy Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard Blakely; and nephew, Thomas Blakely.
