Ella "Mae" Worthman, 98, of Shawnee, KS., formerly of Moline, went to be with her lord on December 23, 2007. She was surrounded by her loving family at home.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. A private burial will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Leukemia Research Foundation.
Ella was born January 29, 1909 in Madison County, Arkansas to Arthur E. and Ella H. (Reynolds) Smith. She married Thomas Troy Chafin on December 23, 1925 in Tahlequah, OK. She later married James L. Worthman in 1943 in Washington County, Arkansas.
In addition to raising her family, Ella worked professionally most of her adult life. During WWII, she sewed American service men's uniforms. She owned a restaurant in Oklahoma and another in New Mexico. She was a supervisor and cook at Bethany Home in Moline for 5 years. She was a tailor and quilt maker. She loved having her family gathered and setting a large table, with vegetables and flowers from her garden. She was an avid reader and in later years she would read a book a day. She was a great story teller and a bright star in all her family's lives. She will be remembered for her strength in all circumstances, her sparkling eyes and fun spirit. Her confidence came from a life long faith in Jesus Christ. She loved gospel music and was a member of Northcrest Calvary Baptist Church of Moline.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons Kenneth L. Chafin, Charles T. Chafin and Tommy Worthman, her twins, Robert and Ella Sue Worthman who died at birth, her grandson Chris Worthman, four sisters and 5 brothers.
