Elmer C. Congdon, age 89 of Moline died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until service time with a Masonic service at 11:30 a.m. conducted by the Moline Lodge # 1014 AF & AM, and Order of Eastern Star, Moline # 258 service a 10a.m. Burial is in National Cemetery, Rock Island with military honors confered by VFW Post # 2153 and American Legion Post # 246. Memorials may be made to Moline Gospel Temple or the family.
Elmer was born July 7, 1916 in Raymondville, MO the son of Charles A. and Mary E. (Stirk ) Congdon. He married Bernice McCabe in June, 1941. He later married Lula M. (Davis) Blair on February 13, 1971 in Moline.
Elmer was employed as a tool crib attendant for John Deere Plow Planter-Moline for 36 years, retiring on February 1, 1973 . He was a lifetime member of the Moline Gospel Temple. Elmer was a World War II Army veteran and member of the firing squad of Moline American Legion Post # 246 , 40 & 8 of Rock Island County, past commander and member of the firing squad of Moline VFW Post # 2153, past president of the Moline Veteran's Memorial Association. He was also a former member of Doric Lodge # 319 AF & AM, Moline Consistory, Masonic Lodge # 1014, Past Worthy Patron of OES # 258, Kaaba Shrine Temple of Davenport , Black Hawk Shrine Club, Past Master Revelor of the Zal Grotto of Moline, and Vasa Lodge 10Y, Thor Lodge # 9 IOV. Elmer was a member of the East End Bowler's Club, Black Hawk Elementary School PTA, John Deere Plow Planter retirees, Deere & Co. retirees Club, Plus 60 Club, AARP, and past president of Moline Family Campers. He also was a former member of the Illinois Justice Police Magistrate & Constable of South Moline Township in 1953, and served as a tour guide for the John Deere Parts Distribution Warehouse.
