Elsie L. Kadel, 93 of Coal Valley passed away August 10, 2010 at Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 13th at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd.,
6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Elsie L. Kadel memorial fund.
Elsie was born on September 3, 1916 in Oakville, Iowa the daughter of Arthur J. and Linnie Gillette Wilson. She married Henry Kadel on September 10, 1932 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in 1959.
Elsie farmed with her husband in Milan and Geneseo until his death. She started as a respiratory therapist at the former Lutheran Hospital and retired as the assistant director of the Respiratory Disease Center in January of 1982 after 22 years. She received registration in the National Registry of Respiratory Therapists in 1966. She was a devoted member of the First Evangelical Church in Moline since 1961 and the last several years of her retirement she read the entire Bible. She was also a member of the George Boyajian Bible Class from 1957 until 1988. Elsie rubber rafted the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon twice while in her 50's. She loved quilting and wildlife. She enjoyed feeding the birds in her back yard and collecting hornet's nests.
Survivors include her son and his wife Fred and Sue Kadel of Geneseo, 2 grandsons Bryan and Lynn Kadel of Wheaton, IL and Dr. Bradley Kadel of Fayatteville, NC; 2 great-grandchildren Jana and Drew Kadel; sister Louise Franks of Moline and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Orville, her brother Robert Wilson and sisters Dr. Lee Holloway and Alice Nimirick.
