Elsie Mitchell, age 83, of Moline, died October 1, 2005, at her home.
Services will be at 2p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2900 Avenue of the Cities, Moline. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice or Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, where she was a member. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family.
Elsie was born on July 21, 1922, in Moline, the daughter of Axel and Signe Sten Hemmingson. She graduated from Moline High School in 1940, and married Robert Mitchell in 1941 in Kirksville, Mo. He died in 2001.
Elsie was secretary to the director of taxes at Deere & Co. for 20 years. Prior to that, she worked as a secretary at East Moline State Hospital. She served as president of a number of organizations, including Franklin Elementary School PTA, American Business Women's Association and Beta chapter of the Phi Sigma Alpha sorority. She also was a member of the Deere & Co. Ladies Investment Club, Blackhawk Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International, and Clara Lodge of the Vikings.
Elsie played regularly in several bridge clubs and marathons, was active in Deere & Co. Ladies Retirees and served for many years on her high school reunion committee. Other interests included sewing, cooking, crafts, shopping, travel and visiting with family.
Survivors include her daughter, Melissa Mitchell, Champaign, and son, Wesley Mitchell, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Christopher and brothers Edward and Robert Hemmingson.
