Emma Jean (Livengood) Dorbeck, 91, formerly of Rock Island, passed away December 25, 2024, at The Fountains in Bettendorf.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday January 2, 2025, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made at Sacred City Church, Moline, or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Emma Jean Livengood Dorbeck was born in Kinsley, Kansas on July 8, 1933, to Carl Livengood and Velna McVey Livengood. She attended schools in Kinsley, Kansas and Rock Island, Illinois, graduating from Rock Island High School in 1951. Jean worked as a receptionist in a professional office after leaving school, electing to be a stay-at-home mom when her first child was born. She married Richard J. Dorbeck in Rock Island, on January 18, 1953.

Jean was a dedicated volunteer. She was involved with PTA, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, RI Booster Club, and the former First Christian Church, Moline (now Sacred City Church), where she was a longtime active member and past Board Chair. She was active with Daughters of the Nile, serving as Queen of Pyramid Temple and as Recording Secretary for nearly 20 years.

Jean and Dick had two sons, Richard, Jr. and David L.; and five grandchildren. In addition, there were 18 great grandchildren to brighten up their lives later in years.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughters-in-law, Joyce Dorbeck, Davenport, Dawn Dorbeck, Washington, IL; grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Wood, Richard W. Dorbeck, Christine (Todd) Fleetwood, Jeanie (Robbie) Stoutenberg, Lisa (Alan Barber) Dorbeck; sister, Melba (Jesse) Andereck, Rock Island; 18 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard; sons, Richard Jr. and David; sisters, Wanda Pike, Donna Long; and brother, Rickey Livengood.
