Ernest Powell, age 86, of Moline, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday,December 3, 2008 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue,Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline with military honors conducted by Milan American Legion Post # 569. Memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church Building Fund.
Ernest was born December 25, 1921 in Monmouth, IL the son of Glenn and Ethel May (Steagall) Powell. He married Delores M. Starr on June 26, 1948 in Moline. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1996.
Ernest was employed as a laborer at Montgomery Elevator, Moline in the accessories department, retiring on January 3, 1986 after 31 years. He was a World War II Army veteran. Ernest attended Union Congregational Church in Moline. He was a member of American Legion Post #569 in Milan; and also a member of Royal Order Moose Lodge #235 in Moline. Ernest enjoyed Intouch Adult Day Service, fishing, and spending time with his family.
