Eugene B Hutchinson

Eugene B. Hutchinson, 83, of East Moline, passed away Friday, March 24th, 2017, at Aledo Health Care Center.

A Catholic Mass preceding burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31st, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 708 State St. Hampton, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, March 30th, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Eugene was born on September 7, 1933, in Princeton, KY, to Walter Russell and Kathleen Coomes Hutchinson.  He had a wonderful childhood as the eldest son of two loving parents. He was loving and caring to his younger brothers. He married Bonnie L. Hamner on December 1st, 1956, in Henderson, KY. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage and life together before she passed on July 6th, 2004. He worked as a design engineer for John Deere Harvester Works for 41 years.

Eugene was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hampton, IL.  He coached softball for many years, and treated every player like his own family. He was a skilled hunter in his early years and later enjoyed woodworking. Above all, Eugene loved to spend time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Robin Brown, Rock Island, IL, Mark (Beth) Hutchinson, Silvis, IL, Kelly (Paul) Martin, Rock Island, IL; grandchildren, Jami, Erika, Matt, Paul, Melissa, David, Jordan, Devin, Dylan, and Logan; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, James (Margaret) Hutchinson, Olathe, KS, Donald (Joyce) Hutchinson, Henderson, KY, and Walter Lee (Gerry) Hutchinson, Davenport, IA; brother-in-law, Charles Hamner; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents.


The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers and staff at Aledo Healthcare Bridges Unit for their tender care and understanding during his final 2 years of life. They treated him with dignity and cared for him as if he were family.
