Eugene "Gene" McGinnis, 90, of Rock Island, died February 2, 2009 at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.
Graveside services will be Friday, February 6, 2009 at 10:00 am. at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Those who wish to attend the graveside service need to be at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline by 9:15 a.m. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1303. Memorials may be made to VFW Post #1303 or to the family.
Gene was born May 7, 1918 in Buffalo Prairie Twp., IL to Oakley and Bertha (Reynolds) McGinnis and was raised in Illinois City.
Gene was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and worked various jobs in the Quad Cities. He loved dancing, calling Bingo and other activities at CASI. Later in life he enjoyed seeing the grandchildren of Marlin Krueger.
Gene deeply missed his special friend, Vera Roby, who passed away in 2008. They had spent their last couple of years at the Fort Armstrong Senior Residence, but had been together over twenty years.
He is survived by

Gary Krueger (Sara) Illinois City
and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by special friend Mary Vera Roby and his four brothers and five sisters.
