Eugene Pavelonis

Eugene Pavelonis, 78, of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of East Moline, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Las Fuentes Assisted Living, Scottsdale.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38 Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Eugene was born April 1, 1931 in Harrisburg, IL, the son of Joe and Alice Pavelonis. He was the youngest of seven children. He attended Shurtleff College in Alton, Illinois where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He received a BA and Masters in Education.
He taught physical education, health, and coached basketball and football for 37 years. He retired from Wilson Junior High School in 1988. Athletics were a very important part of his life. He had a passion for athletic competition, especially the game of golf. He received the most enjoyment in watching his boys and grandchildren compete in athletics.
His youngest son, Kyle Pavelonis, preceded him in death.
His other two sons survive him: Dr. Joel (Teresa) Pavelonis and Dr. Kevin (Teresa) Pavelonis. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren. We will miss him very much, but we thank God for blessing us with a wonderful dad and grandpa.
