Eva Mary Anne Kronfeld was born on August 30, 1917 in Carbon Cliff, Illinois. She was the fifth of 10 children born to Paul Gustaf Adolf Kronfeld and Emma Emilia Wilhelmina Schumann. When Eva was 14 and the oldest remaining child at home, her father died, leaving Eva to help raise her younger siblings.
Eva graduated from Rock Island High School in 1936. Following her graduation, she worked at the Licorice Factory and subsequently became a secretary at the Moline Iron Works.
In 1943, Eva married Victor Kauzlarich at Immanuel Lutheran church in Rock Island. They moved to California for a time while Victor was stationed at Camp Kohler. They had three children: Richard (born in 1944), Victoria (born in 1949) and Stanley (born in 1956).
Eva was a founding member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and began serving as the church’s secretary to the pastor in 1961. She retired at age 89. Really.
Eva’s was an active life, full of continuing support to her adult siblings and to her mother who died at age 96. She was a renowned baker, an avid gardener and she loved to crochet. She laughed easily and often. She endured a family of Cubs fans. Always full of grace and gratitude, she became well-loved by her caretakers in the last years of her life.
Eva is survived by her children Richard (and wife, Anne) in Falls Church, VA, Victoria (and husband, Jim Thane) in Scottsdale, AZ and Stanley in Geneseo, IL. Other survivors include her sister, Alberta Hall (Sandpoint, Idaho), her granddaughter Terri Kauzlarich Skender and her husband, Derek Skender, along with two great-grandchildren Richard and Victoria Skender (Oakton, VA).
Eva was preceded in death her husband (2002), her parents, 8 of her brothers and sisters, and her grandson Richard Dale Kauzlarich, Jr. (1995)
