Eva Eleonore Graner Rosen was born on May 2nd, 1924 to Heinrich and Eva (Jaene) Graner
in a parsonage in the small town of Protzen, Germany. Eva was known as Eleonore for much of
her life. As a child, she was an adventurous tom-boy who loved being outside, spending time
with animals, and accompanying her father on countryside trips in his motorcycle sidecar. As an
extremely talented artist, Eleonore attended art and design school in Dresden, Germany.
However, her dreams of becoming a fashion designer were interrupted by WWII. After the war,
Eleonore met an American soldier, Clyde Gaskill, who later became her husband and father to
her two daughters. She immigrated to the United States in 1950. She later worked at the
Savanna Army Depot and then the Rock Island Arsenal as an Engineering Technician. In 1977
she married Mort Rosen. Eleonore loved to travel and often made trips to visit family and friends
back in Germany. In addition to her art, she was also a skilled piano player. Eleonore was a
lover of animals, especially dogs and horses. She was a devoted grandmother to her
granddaughters, Elizabeth and Stephanie and enjoyed being such a big part of their lives.
Eleonore was a woman of strength and determination which served her well throughout her life.
Survivors include her daughter Eva (David) Hunt; grandchildren Elizabeth Eva (Brian) Deering,
Stephanie Hunt, John (Loretta) Dowling, Eric (Natasha) Dowling; great-grandchildren Eleonore
Eva, and Jakob Deering, William, Darrien, Tia, and Gabriella Dowling; beloved cousin Lutte Hermann and
family.
She was preceded in death by her younger brother Jurgen, who passed away as a teenager;
her husband Mort Rosen; her daughter Christine Gaskill Dowling; and many beloved dogs.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Silver Cross, Friendship Manor and
Hospice Compassus for all of the love and care given to Eva.
Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
