Ferne E. Peterson, 94, of Lynn Center, IL died February 28, 2008 at Mercer County Nursing Home.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at Swedona Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home., Ltd. Burial will be in Swedona Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
Ferne was born August 19, 1913 in Lomax, IL to Gilbert and Edith (Mattson) Stromquist. She married Milton T. Peterson on February 1, 1933 in rural Orion in her parent's home. He preceded her in death on September 1, 1997.
Ferne attended Orion High School and attended Brown's Business College for a year. She was a homemaker and Milton's best farmhand, raising chickens, milking cows, and riding in the cedar wagon helping to sow oats.
She was a lifetime member of Swedona Lutheran Church where she was involved in WELCA, the Swedish suppers, the sewing circle, the senior citizen's group where she was known as the "game lady" and she was a junior choir director for many years. She was also a member of the "500" card club.
Ferne was a wonderful cook known for her Swedish rye bread. She enjoyed quilting and rug weaving. She made quilts for all her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for being a friend and neighbor to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers Glenn & Quentin Stromquist, her son-in-law Harold Lawson, 2 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, 1 great great grandson.
