Delane was born on June 7, 1937, in Aledo, IL, the son of Earl and Margie Cooper Johnson. He grew up with a deep love for family, music, and farming which were three passions that would stay with him his entire life.
After graduating from Alexis High School in 1955, Delane entered the Army, serving on the DMZ as a sharpshooter in Korea. Delane attended Allied Institute of Technology after his time in the Army, where he was trained to be a draftsman.
He worked at John Deere for over thirty years as a senior designer and draftsman. He was a skilled artist. He loved his work and his many years with Deere.
On February 28, 1960, Delane married his sweetheart, Janet Kay Grabosch. He was a wonderful, kind and caring husband who loved Janet deeply until his final breath. Delane was a wonderful father to his children, Dann and Amy and the BEST Papa ever to his six grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him, including the Perry dog, Murphy, who loved Delane more than anyone else on Earth. Delane’s life was a blessing to everyone he met!
Delane loved his church at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline! He served as an elder, deacon, property maintenance chairman and he loved singing in the choir, which he did faithfully for over forty years.
In his free time, Delane was quite the athlete, but his favorite sport by far was golf! He loved his time with all his golf cronies and made many great memories on the course!
Delane will be deeply missed, but we hope he’ll be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his helpful and humble nature, his hilarious sense of humor and his love for his family and the Lord! He was an incredible man!
