Frances “Betty” E. Skantz, 96, of Moline, passed away February 19, 2024 at UnityPoint Health Trinity.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Homewood Free Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mission Board at Homewood Free Church or WDLM.
Betty was born on March 16, 1927, in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Frances (Joneson) and Patrick Swanson. She married LeRoy J. Skantz on November 14, 1948, in Opheim, IL. He preceded her on November 13, 1980. Betty graduated from Alpha High School and later the Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. Betty worked as a registered nurse for the Moline Public Hospital, Americana Nursing Home, and private care nursing. She was a part-time school nurse and worked with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Betty was a member of Homewood Free Church in Moline. She served on the Mission Board and Women’s White Cross Group. At 65, she served for one year as a missionary in Kazakhstan and served two summers in Mongolia.
Survivors include her children Jean Hesler of Moline, IL, Joy (Alan) Fyfe of Coal Valley, IL, and Darrell (Ann) Skantz of Olathe, MO; son in law Mike Minnick of Santan Valley, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; siblings Joan Lambin of Galva, IL, Patricia Klundt of OK, Leo (Darlene) Swanson of FL; sister in law Eunice Swanson of Litchfield, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband LeRoy; brother Ray Swanson; daughter Jane Minnick; granddaughter Cindy Frazier.
