Frances M. Peterson, 91, of Friendship Manor, Rock Island (formerly of Moline) died June 1, 2008, at her daughter's home in Benbrook, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice, Friendship Manor Silver Cross, American Cancer Society or First Lutheran Church-Moline.
Frances Maria Carlson was born July 22, 1916, in Moline, the daughter of Frank and Anna Carlson. She married Howard W. Peterson of Moline at First Lutheran Church on November 19, 1939. They were the parents of three children?Bruce, Lois and Susan. Howard passed away in December, 1982.
Frances attended Moline schools and graduated Valedictorian from Moline High School in 1934. She attended Augustana College 1934-36 and, until her marriage, was employed as an Auditor at Royal Neighbors of America, Rock Island.
She was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church, Moline, where she was actively involved in choir, teaching Sunday school, women's groups, and especially loved working with the youth. She was a member of the Mother's Hospital Circle, the Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary, Augustana Endowment Society, the Rock Island Historical Society, and the Eva B. Clarkson Kings Daughters Circle of Friendship Manor.
Frances loved her role of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She showed much compassion in caring for her mother in their home and assisted several of her mother's friends. She took great pleasure in recording Howard's and her Swedish heritage, making several trips to Sweden with Howard, and later with each of their six grandchildren.
After Howard's death, she became a resident at Friendship Manor, Rock Island, where she took an active part in the life there. At 82 she began emailing relatives and friends near and far on her computer which she referred to as "The Monster". She always appreciated good humor and enjoyed keeping the antics of Dennis the Menace posted on her door for passersby.
Survivors include a son, Bruce Peterson and wife, Virginia, Daphne, AL; a daughter, Lois and husband, Will Powers, Benbrook, TX; a daughter, Susan and husband Webster Breeding, Houston, TX; seven grandchildren (and spouses): Kurtis (Shannon) Peterson, Sioux City, IA; Scott Powers, Benbrook, TX; Marc Peterson, Mound, MN; Nicole Katrana (Seth) Pickett, Allen, TX; Kimberly (Jim) McNeese, Allen, TX; Deanna (Steve) Wright, Chaska, MN; and six great-grandchildren: Aaron, Carl and Ross Peterson, Caden and Cale McNeese, and Taylor Kate and Brenden Pickett.
