Francis "Fran" Ghys, 72, of East Moline, IL, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 201 1st Street, Colona, IL. A Rosary Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. with a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, University of Iowa Children's Hospital, or to Heartland Hospice.
Francis was born on November 19, 1940, in Geneseo, IL, the son of Alphonse and Irene (Lippens) Ghys. He married Sharon Saelens on May 26, 1962, in Moline, IL.
Francis worked as a Tool and Die Maker for Case I.H. retiring after 32 years of service. He then worked at Eagle Engineering retiring after 10 years of service. Francis was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and Cardinal's baseball.
