Freda Dorris

Freda Dorris, 89, formerly of Orion, passed away Tuesday September 24, 2024, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday October 7, 2024, at Esterdahl Funeral Home, 1301 4th Street Orion. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial is at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Orion Baptist Church.

Freda was born on June 10, 1935, in Andover, the daughter of Herman and Grace (Manthe) Peters. She attended confirmation class at the Jenny Lind Chapel in Andover and was confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church. She married Elmer Ihlefeld on September 24, 1961, and he preceded her in death on February 3, 1975. She later married Cecil Dorris on June 11, 1977, in Orion. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1993.

Freda was a caretaker in the Orion community and was known for her compassion. She was a kind, generous person who always gave a helping hand to those in need. She also worked at the Henry County Health Department for several years. Freda was a member of the Orion Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school leader. She also was the Shining Lights President and held many other positions.

Survivors include her son, Douglas (Lynn) Ihlefeld, Sussex, WI; grandchildren, Amanda (Justin) Schwieger, Germantown, WI, Nathan (Courtney) Ihlefeld, Menomonee Falls, WI, Brooke (Chad Matthews) Ihlefeld, Madison, WI; great grandchildren, Zachary, Gage, Taylor Ihlefeld and Caiden, Beckett, Greyson Schwieger; sister, Anne (Joe) Vincent, Cambridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Adelia (William) McRell, Elma (Glenn) Woolley, Frances (Gene) Craine; brothers, Carl (Donna) Peters and Bob (Nina) Peters.
