G. Gordon Grimes

G. Gordon Grimes, 82, of Moline, IL, passed away on December 17, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church, 1724 15th Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Interment will be at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, military rites will be accorded by the Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
Gordon was born April 15th, 1930, in Oelwein, IA, the son of George and Helen (Orbell) Grimes. He was married on June 6, 1954, to Ruth Gunther at Hope Lutheran Church in rural Westgate, Iowa.
Gordon worked for Deere & Co. for 33 years, starting at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, and retiring from the Administration Center.
Gordon enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and was recalled in 1950 during the Korean Conflict. He served until 1953 as a Seabee on construction projects in Morocco, Guantanamo Bay, and Newfoundland.
Gordon was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Moline and volunteered his time where needed, from computer technician to Council President.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Ruth Grimes; three sons, Steven (Sue) Grimes, David (Farolyn) Grimes, and John (Kim) Grimes; and eight grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Delaney, Laura Grimes, Brett Grimes, Alexa Grimes, Nathan Grimes, Kylsie Grimes, Austin Grimes, and Corbin Grimes.
