Gary L. Tertipes, 68, of Coal Valley, IL, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Unity Point Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the funeral home. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Niabi Zoo or to Coal Valley Dad's Club.
Gary was born on July 23, 1945, in Scott County, IA, the son of Louis and Corinne (Bailey) Tertipes. He worked as a machinist for McLaughlin Body Co., Moline, for 44 years until he retired.
Gary was very involved in family sporting events. He was a coach for his children's softball and baseball teams and never missed his granddaughters' softball games. He was also an avid golfer and loved the Chicago Bears. In his younger years, Gary was a 6th grade football coach for Coal Valley Elementary, a volunteer fireman and President of the Coal Valley Lion's Club. During that time he was a Board of Trustee for Coal Valley and a member of the East End Club where he was recently still a member. Gary enjoyed meeting his friends on Thursdays for Social Hour. Above all, Gary cherished the time he spent with his granddaughters.
