George D. Freeland, age 77, of Colona, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Grace Community Church of the Nazarene, Colona. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial is in Rose-Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to Grace Community Church of the Nazarene for New Visions Sunday School Class remodeling or to the Colona Volunteer Fire Department.
George was born June 2, 1930 in Yale, IL the son of Wroten and Marie Martin Freeland. He married Vera Faye Mosher on July 8, 1954.
George was a switchman for the Rock Island Line Railroad and a rural route carrier for the U.S. Post Office. He was a veteran of the Korean War with the 101st Airborne, a member of the Rural Mail Carrier Union and the Rock Island Railroad Union. He was a member of the Grace Community Church of the Nazarene. He was an artist and enjoyed gardening, model trains, and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife Vera; his children and their spouses Charles and Nancy Freeland of Orion, Sharon and Rev. Stephen White of Madison, S.D., Dr. George Freeland and Carla Terbeek of Sparta, MI and Rose and Rev. David Mohler of Aberdeen, S.D.; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Mary Deck and Cassie Ballinger and 1 brother Eugene Freeland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Charles and Bud.
