George E Leibengood

George "Bud" E. Leibengood, 92, of Bartow, FL, formerly of Moline, IL, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Barton, FL.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the grandchildren's educational fund.

George was born on May 17, 1920, in Keithsburg, IL, the son of Eddie Edward and Fannie I. (Gaylor) Leibengood. He married Marjorie Clawson on September 29, 1946, in Aledo, IL. She preceded him in death in 1998. When he was in 8th grade he cut buttons in a button factory. He was a Keithsburg High School graduate and served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII as a Corporal. He was attached to the 5th Air Force 866th Engineers. He followed General McArthur through the South Pacific from New Guinea to Tokyo, Japan. Bud was with the Army when the Philippines were liberated. Upon his discharge in 1946, he worked as a machinist for JI Case in Rock Island for about a year before becoming the postmaster in Keithsburg, IL. Bud later worked as a Journeyman Machinist for John Deere Harvester for 18 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Christian Church of Moline, Masonic Lions Club, Royal Neighbor Association, and the school board. Bud was the Pastmaster and Past President of National Association of Postmasters and built the new post office in Keithsburg, IL. He also served the Keithsburg fire department, and played piano and trombone. He was an avid outdoor sportsman who especially loved fishing and duck hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 sisters; granddaughter.
