George L Severs

George L. Severs, 82, of Rock Island, IL, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at home.

A family directed memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at MGT New Hope Church, 2305 7th Avenue, Moline, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.  Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

George was born on February 10, 1935, in Moline, IL, the son of Tom and Opal Stamey Severs.  He married Vivian Mundt on April 12, 1958, at Moline Gospel Temple.  He worked as an inspection supervisor for John Deere Harvester for over 30 years, retiring in June of 1987. Also, he was the owner and operator of Sever’s Masonry from 1987 to 2006.

George was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Navy from 1954-1956.  He was a member of MGT New Hope Foursquare Church.  George enjoyed woodworking, playing the trumpet and reading non-fiction.  He especially loved playing football with the grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Severs; daughter, Connie Shaffer, Rock Island, IL; son, Greg (Debbie) Severs, Sandwich, IL; 6 grandchildren, Jamie, Jason (Adrienne), Ryan (Jessica), Andrew, Ethan, and Reid; 9 great great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Al) Gustafson, FL; 2 brothers, Ted (Deanna) Severs, Moline, IL, and Tom (Diana) Severs, Moline, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
