Georgia was born on June 3, 1934, in Moline, Illinois. She was the daughter of George and Andrainna (Fasoules) Miller who had immigrated from Lyrkeia, a small village from the Peloponnese region in Greece. Her childhood was rooted in her extended family and the Greek community in the Quad-Cities. She graduated from Moline High School and attended the University of Illinois where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Education.
She met the love of her life, James Kappler, in middle school as they grew up only blocks away from each other in Moline. They married on February 13, 1959, in Indiana and started their life together in Ankeny, Iowa and soon after, Georgia began her teaching career.
They moved to Moline in 1966 and Georgia began teaching third grade at Franklin Elementary School. She dedicated herself to her students and helped to shape many young lives until she retired, having taught for more than 30 years.
She and Jim retired to Ft Myers, FL where they spent many happy years with friends golfing and traveling.
Georgia had a passion for antiques which she enjoyed throughout her life. She built many beautiful collections and became deeply knowledgeable about their origins. She turned this passion into a small business once she retired. She and Jim enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Europe to antique shows and markets for her business.
She is survived by her two daughters Susan Kappler Blodgett (husband John Blodgett) and Patricia Kappler, three grandchildren James Blodgett (wife Sarah Blodgett) Jenna Blodgett, Matthew Hirsch (wife Summer), two great granddaughters Isabelle Blodgett and Scottie Hirsch, and two nieces Christie Bollman and Kelly Couch.
