Gertrude C. Johnson

Gertrude C. Johnson, formerly of Orion, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline at the age of 105 years and 11 months.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial is at Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home. Ltd. Orion is assisting the family.
Gertrude was born November 16, 1904 in Rural Township, Rock Island County to Fred and Clara (Stevenson) Love. She married Wallace Johnson on December 26, 1923 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1973.
Gertrude was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Rural Township and the Osco area before moving to Orion. She held membership at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion, and the WELCA Carnation Circle. She enjoyed her neighborhood coffee group. While she was able, she found pleasure in flower gardening, working in her yard even at the age of 100 and sewing, crocheting and tatting.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Maynard Malmen, Orion, Arlene Martin (Albert), Orion, Richard Malmen (Sara), Santa Maria, CA, Gary Malmen (Linda), Boise, ID, Geraldine Samuelson (Duane), Orion, Larry Love (Sharon), Joplin, MO, Betty Carlson (Raymond), Orion, and several grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Edwin Love, Harold Love, and sisters, Decil Malmen and Florence Erickson.
