Goldie "Judy" Julia Switzer, 91, of Colona, IL, died Monday, September 14, 2015, at Riverwood Rehab, East Moline, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Julia was born on July 10, 1924, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Merton Alfred Charles and Goldie Rosetta McClaren Zimmerman. She married Henry Lee Switzer on June 16, 1945, in East Moline, IL, and he preceded her in death on February 20, 2010.
Julia worked as a machinist for International Harvester for 33 years, retiring in 1979. While working, she also worked as a recording secretary with Local 1304 for over 13 years.
Following her retirement, Julia worked for Colona Grade School and Two Rivers YMCA as a site director for their before and after school program.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as Zal Caldron #4. Julia loved riding motorcycles, especially the 1945/46 Indian Chief. More than anything, she was very compassionate and loved being surrounded by children.
Survivors include her children, Dennis (Carol) Switzer, Colona, IL, Janice Fluaitt, Princeton, KY, and Chuck Switzer, Colona, IL; grandchildren, Sean, Travis, and Devlin Fluaitt, Josh, Amanda, and Chevonne Switzer, Theresa Jowers, and Michelle Rowe; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and 1 on the way; sisters, June (Claude) Ramsey, Marlene Sorensen, and Virginia Hunsaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Merton and Bert; sister, Erialene and Ruth; 2 great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Baby Fluaitt; son-in-law, William Fluaitt.
