Grace Irene Poston age 95 of Coal Valley died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Illini Restorative Health Care Center in Silvis, IL.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave. Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is at Coal Valley Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
Grace was born September 12, 1909 on a farm near Littleton, IL. She was the daughter of John and Anna Reece Greenleaf. She married John Poston in 1934. He died in 1974.
Grace left her home in 1927 and moved to Macomb, IL where she worked as a waitress until 1930 when she journeyed by train to Moline. She worked at John Deere Harvester during World War II. When her husband died in 1974, Grace moved to Coal Valley where she lived until she became ill at the beginning of April 2005.
On September 12, 2004, Grace celebrated her 95th birthday at a party which was attended by many friends and relatives. Although Grace never had any children of her own, she helped raise other people's children. She combined her love of children with being a mothers' helper. She cooked, cleaned, baked, sewed, nursed, and kept a watchful eye on the "young" ones. She was always a part of the family where she worked, as the children grew to adulthood, she remained a friend and a confidant.
Grace is survived by one sister, Eva Little of Rushville, IL, a niece Judy Dupoy (Charles) Rushville, and nephews Jim Little (Sue) Peoria, John Little (Cookie) Mt. Sterling and Jay Little, Rushville. She is also survived by her Quad City family; Leona Peterson-Spear (Donald Spear), Bryan Murphy (Tammy and daughter, Morgan), Ila Gile, Mary Ann Gile, and Dr. Paul and Janet Moen, as well as her neighbors and many friends and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, brothers Glen Greenleaf and Marion Peter Greenleaf; sisters Nova Clooney, Elva Greenleaf and a niece Betty Forsythe.
