Gretchen "Nonnie" Haines

Gretchen "Nonnie" Haines, 85 of Normal died Friday, July 22, 2011, at Clarissa Cook Hospice House Bettendorf after a long illness.
Services are 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd. Moline. Visitation is from 11:00-12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. An additional memorial visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to ARC of QC area, 9th Street Place, Rock Island or Iowa Make a Wish.
Gretchen "Nonnie" Trese Farrell was born April 15, 1926 in Moline the youngest of 11 children of John and Margaret (Mohr) Farrell. Nonnie married Robert R. Haines on January 24, 1948 at St. Mary's Rectory, Moline. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year.
Nonnie graduated from St. Mary's High School, Moline, in 1945 and attended Marycrest College, Davenport. She worked as a retail clerk at Grossman's Women's Wear and McCabes. She also was employed as an oxygen therapist at Moline Lutheran Hospital. Her favorite job was a kindergarten teacher aide at W.L. Eddy School, Milan.
Nonnie and Bob resided in the Quad Cities until 1973 before moving to Normal. She served as a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader. Nonnie was a longtime member of the Senior Women's Illinois State University Golf League and the Normal Senior Women's Exercise Group. She attended Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal. Nonnie enjoyed playing the piano, participating in competitions when she was young. She also loved to play bridge and traveling with her husband.
Survivors include her husband, her children Stephen (Carolyn) and Patricia Haines of Moline, Robert M. (Cindy) of Bellaire, TX, sister, Mary Kale of Milan, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, nine siblings and her great-grandson, Kyle Roseman, preceded her in death.
