Harold Boyd

Harold E Boyd, 72, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 surrounded by his family.

A Private Family Service will be held at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory., Moline.  Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline is assisting the family.

Harold was born on December 3, 1947, in Birmingham, England, the son of Ernest and Dorothy (Bradley) Boyd.  After attending Macadory High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and was later drafted into the U.S. Army and served with the 447th Regiment, 9th infantry during the Vietnam War.  He was injured while serving in the Mekong Delta. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient.  Harold married Susan Byrd in 1968, going on to have 5 children, Shiela, Edward, Ernest, Bradley, and Betty.  They divorced in 1986.  He later met and married Mary J. Moyer, welcoming her 5 children, Dorothy, Billy, Shawn, Mary Rose, and Michael.  Harold loved fishing, boating, building RC planes, helicopters, boats, and cars, his latest hobby was building model trains.

Survivors include his wife; Mary, ex-wife; Susan Byrd, siblings; Peter R. Boyd, Carol Byrd and Joyce Parker, children; Shiela Carr, Edward Boyd, Earnest Boyd, Bradley Boyd, Betty Boyd, Dorothy Abernathy, William Moyer, Shawn Varner, Mary Solberg, Michael Moyer, 25 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister; Dora Faye Hunter, and sister; Dorothy Rinker.
