Helen Mae Wieckhorst

Helen Mae Wieckhorst, 94, of Moline, died Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38 Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the Moline Public Schools Foundation.
Helen was born on May 31, 1916 in Des Moines, Iowa to Fred and Veta Mae Arnett Wieckhorst.
Helen was a United Stated Navy Veteran having served during World War II in the WAVES or Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service. Helen graduated from Augustana College and furthered her education receiving her Master's degree from the University of Iowa and was a grade school teacher in the Moline School District for 38 years. She began teaching at William Carr Grade School in 1950 and taught there until 1952. Helen continued her career at Hamilton Elementary School teaching second and fourth grades until her retirement in 1980.
Helen enjoyed bridge and casinos both in the Quad Cities and while visiting Reno, Neveda. She loved doing puzzles and she took great pride in her students and being a teacher.
