Henry Lee Switzer

Henry Lee Switzer, age 84, of Colona, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline with military honors conducted by East Moline American Legion Post #227. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Childrens Hospital.
Lee was born April 15, 1925 in Hire Township, IL the son of William Glen and Francis Elizabeth (Willis) Switzer. He married Julia Zimmerman on June 16, 1945 in East Moline.
Lee was employed as a machinist at Case IH for 29 years, retiring in 1988. He later worked for Quad City Auto Auction for 15 years, from 1988-2003. Lee also managed Regal Lanes in East Moline. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1939 at age 14, and then served in the Coast Guard Shore patrol, from 1940-1945 in Hawaii/San Francisco. Lee served as the Silvis Little League coach/president in the 1960's. He was a member of the Blue Lodge, 4 times Monarch with the ZAL Grotto, Consistry - 32nd Degree Mason, and president of the Illinois State Grotto Association. Lee also enjoyed playing Santa Claus in various nursing homes and was very active in city/county fund raising.
