Herbert Francis McDonnell, age 77, of Moline, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Parkview Healthcare Center, East Moline, after an extended illness.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m Saturday, April 16 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd.,
6601 - 38th Avenue, Moline. The funeral service will begin at noon with burial immediately following in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #227, East Moline. Everyone is welcome to join the family for a luncheon at Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, after the ceremony. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born July 28, 1927, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of William and Ellen (Costello) McDonnell. Herbert married Joan Hagerman on June 7, 1952, in Metropolis, Illinois.
He was a 40 year members and Past Worshipful Master of Moline Lodge No. 1014., and a member of Moline Chapter 258, Order of Eastern Star. He also served in World War II as a Seaman Second Class and was a member of The American Legion Post #227 for 33 years.
Herbert was a loving and devoted husband and father. He loved reading and watching westerns. In his earlier years, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening. He retired from International Harvester (Farmall) in February, 1985.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michael McDonnell, Cocoa, FL, Pamela Alvarez, Chico, CA, Steve McDonnell, Moline, Jean Hayden and son-in-law Frank, Beaver Dam, WI and Debby McDonnell, Moline; grandchildren (and spouses), Steven J. McDonnell, Tim (Kendra) Hayden, Becky Hayden and Jolanda McDonnell; great-grandchildren, Alex and Seth Hayden; sister, Grace McClain; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Herbert was preceded in death by his loving wife Joan in October 2004, his parents, brothers, Peter, Robert, John, James, William Jr.; and sister, Joan.
