Hilding Elmer Peterson

Hilding Elmer Peterson, 86, of Silvis, IL, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal where military honors will be performed by V.F.W. Post 2156. Memorials may be made to his wife, Susan.

Elmer was born on August 15, 1927, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Hilding and Leola (Bennell) Peterson.
He married Vera Liebig and they later divorced. He then married Doris A. Jones on May 26, 1979, in East Moline, IL, and she preceded him in death on February 23, 1992. He later married Susan Evans in November of 1995, in East Moline.

Elmer was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and then serving in the U.S. Army during Korea. Elmer was a member of V.F.W. Post 2156 of East Moline. He worked as a Laborer for the Rock Island Arsenal in the foundry, Franks Foundry, John Deere Plow in Moline, and then for the former Servus Rubber, retiring in 1984. His father started the former First Assembly of God in East Moline. He later belonged to Bethel Assembly of God in Rock Island, IL, where he was an usher. Elmer was an avid fisherman who loved the Cubs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, David and James Peterson, and a step-son, Ralph Leisure.
