Howard Mackey

August 18, 1922 — January 24, 2009

Howard "Jim" J. Mackey, of Colona, age 86, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5765 Poppy Garden Road, Colona. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Oquawka Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a fund established for the family.
Jim was born August 18, 1922 in Monmouth, the son of Leo and Irene Henderson Mackey. He married Eloise Goempler on October 3, 1942 in St. Louis, MO.
Jim was a skilled tool and die maker at IH Farmall until 1984 when he retired at the age of 62. He was a member of Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Colona. He was the recording secretary for the UAW Local where he enjoyed Wednesday dinners with the members. Jim enjoyed traveling and has visited Japan, US Virgin Islands, Branson, MO, and Las Vegas. He also enjoyed photography, music, bingo, boating, hunting, and fishing. Jim was a good dancer. He played volley ball as well as pool leagues. He went waterskiing at the age of 80 and loved becoming a grandpa and great grandpa. He also enjoyed fixing stuff even if it wasn't broken and helping everyone fix or invent a part for what was needed.
