Howard William Wilhouse, age 83, of East Moline, formerly of Orion, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Orion United Methodist Church. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Orion. Burial is at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Orion United Methodist Church or Genesis Hospice.
Howard was born July 22, 1927 in Colona Township, Henry County, the son of Charles and Amelia Baraks Willhouse. He married Margaret Ann Gould on May 27, 1949 at the Orion United Methodist Church.
Howard farmed in the Orion and Geneseo areas for 21 years. Margaret and Howard moved to Florida in 1972 where he was employed by the United States Postal Service for 18 years, retiring in 1999. Howard was a veteran of the U.S. army stationed in Japan during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post #159 in Venice, FL and Orion American Legion Post #255. Howard and Margaret returned permanently to the Quad City area in 2005. He was also a member of the Orion United Methodist Church. Howard enjoyed bowling and fishing, and was an avid Cubs fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren since returning from Florida.
