Iona T. Schnack, age 98 of Moline died Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Parkview Healthcare Center, East Moline.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2006 at First Christian Church, East Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, East Moline. Easterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline is assisting the family.
Iona was born May 9, 1908 in Erie, IL the daughter of George and Laura (Young) Turner. She married Virgil C. Schnack on December 4, 1936 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1996.
Iona was a graduate of Erie High School and Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1930. She worked as a charge nurse at Mrs. Carrol's Nursing Home in Rock Island and was employed as a nurse in the maternity ward at the former Moline Public Hospital for 8 years. Iona set up the first, First Aid Department for John Deere Spreader Works during World War II. She then was an Industrial Nurse at American Air Filter for 16 years, retiring in 1973.
Iona was member of First Christian Church, East Moline where she was an elder, and quilted every Tuesday. She was a 64 year member of the Moline Public Hospital Nurses Association; a 53 year member of the Rock Island Moose, and a 43 year member of the American Nurses Association. Iona also was a member of the American Red Cross.
