Iona M. Ylinen, 99, of Morton, formerly of Rock Island, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Morton Terrace Care Center, Morton, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 22, 2010 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Christian Friendliness. Burial will be held at Rose-Lawn Memorial Estate.
Iona was born on August 8, 1911 in International Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole J. and Inga T. (Pormia) Risnes. She married Laurie Levi Ylinen on August 3, 1938 in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1982.
Iona was a clerical worker for Royal Neighbors of America and the former Rock Island Argus circulation department. Church work was her life and she opened her home to missionaries. She held numerous positions with the Christian Women's Club, and was very involved with Christian Friendliness. Iona was also a very social person.
