Irene K. Mekus, age 90 of East Moline died Friday, November 10, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Irene was born November 14, 1915 in Rock Island the daughter of Peter and Katherine (Latsis) Gartelos. She married Nick Mekus on June 23, 1946 in Moline.
Irene was a member of St. George Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope. She was very active in church affairs, especially the bake sales. Irene enjoyed cooking and baking. Her hobbies included; Christmas crafts, painting porcelain figurines and cross stitch. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
