Irene Peterson, 100, of Rock Island, died December 13, 2009 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 12:45 p.m. with a visitation starting at noon Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Irene's name, may be made to Friendship Manor (1209-21st Ave. Rock Island) or St. John's Lutheran Church,( 4501-7th Ave. Rock Island).
The former Irene Lundgren was born on June 20, 1909 in Stromsburg, Nebraska, daughter of Charles and Hilda Peterson Lundgren. She was married to Fingal Peterson on December 27, 1937 in Kansas City, Kansas. He died February 15, 1973.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island. She was an alumnus of Augustana College. She taught at Central Junior High School in Moline before her marriage. In later years, she worked in the libraries of the Lutheran School of Theology and Augustana College, retiring in 1984.
Surviving are Sons and daughters-in-law Lyn and Linda Peterson of Monticello, IL; Neal and Valerie Peterson of Hoffman Estates, IL; 5 grandchildren and spouses Eric and Jamie Peterson of Urbana, IL, Amy and Anthony Strati of Indianapolis, IN, Jennifer and Michael Carney of Yorkville, IL, Jeffrey and Krista Peterson of Palatine, IL and Christa and Ryan Raska of Elmhurst, IL; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Florence Whiteside.
