Irene Reed, 92, of DeLand, FL formerly of East Moline died August 22, 2006 in DeLand, FL.
Services will be at a later date. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to Illini Hospital or East Moline Library. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. are assisting the family.
Irene was born November 12, 1913 in Port Byron, IL to David and Mabel (Allsbrow) Schafer. She graduated Port Byron High School and attended Western State University. She married Donald J. Reed June 7, 1958 in Port Byron, IL.
Irene joined the WAVES U.S. Navy September 23, 1942 and was the first enlistment from this area and one of the first at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
Irene had a long business career with the State of Illinois Health Department, Ametek, Deere Estate & Affiliated Trusts, and Illini Hospital, where she was the first secretary of Illini Hospital Board.
She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. She formerly belonged to East Moline Women's Club, the National Secretaries Association and Questers. She loved to play tennis and golf and had belonged to several ladies golf leagues. She also loved to play cards and read.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Elnora Smith and Neva Trent, nephew David A. Trent and niece Donna Sue Sutton.
