Iva F. Hughes, age 84, of Moline, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January, 3, 2013 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial is at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to a fund to be established for Iva's great grandchildren's education.
Iva was born March 19, 1928 in Adona, AR., the daughter of Arthur and Lola (Hamilton) St. John. She married Gwyn V. Hughes on July 29, 1950 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2009.
Iva graduated from Moline High School in 1946. She worked for S.S. Kresge 5 & 10 till graduation, then for Winters Heating for a few months before leaving to work at Farmall Works until her daughter's birth in 1957. Iva started working part time for Deere & Company Credit Union in 1962, retiring at age 62. She was involved at Roosevelt grade school, with the Roosevelt Rock bowling team, PTA, and was a den mother for the cub scouts. Iva joined the RIABWA chapter of the American Business Women's Association in March of 1971 and was "Woman of the Year" for 1978-79. She then joined the Heritage chapter of A.B.W.A. when the RIABWA chapter disbanded, and was "Woman of the Year" for 1992-93. Iva was a member of the A.B.W.A. mixed bowling league, and several card clubs. She enjoyed traveling around the country, taking cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, doing crafts and spending time in her flower garden. Iva especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
