Ivy T Johnston

April 5, 1918 — February 19, 2010

Ivy T. Johnston, age 91, a resident of Amber Ridge Assisted Living Residence, Moline, and formerly a long time resident of Orion, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Friday, February 19, 2010 at Amber Ridge.
A private graveside service was held Monday, February 22, 2010 at Western Township Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Osco Community Church, Osco, IL. The Rev. Douglas Shook will officiate. Memorials may be made to Osco Community Church or Christian Care, P.O. Box 4176, Rock Island, IL. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Orion is assisting the family.
She was born Ivy Treichler in Garrison Twp. MN on April 5, 1918, the daughter of Albert and Nettie (Brockway) Treichler. After graduating from Crosby-Ironton High School, she attended teacher training and taught in a one room school. She married George Johnston on June 16, 1940 in Crosby, MN and moved to Moline. She was employed 17 years in the Physical Therapy Dept. of Lutheran Hospital in Moline, retiring in 1976. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening, belonging to the ladies organizations at church, being a Sunday school teacher and church librarian, not only at Osco Community Church but also at First Evangelical Free Church and Homewood Evangelical Church in Moline. Ivy was a member of Orion's 6th Street Birthday Club and enjoyed working on the Orion Park flower garden beds.
Ivy is survived by a son, Donald (Nancy) Johnston, Orion, a daughter, Eileen (James) Byrne, Pine Island, MN, eight grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. Also included in Ivy's loving family are Jim & Michong Zak of Davenport and their children, and special friends Jim & Linda Parry of Orion.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Delores (Lee) Tapper in 1985, by her husband in 1999, and by a sister Erna Seath and brother Harry Treichler.
