James Edward Murphy, Jr. 77 of Bettendorf, died September 1, 2008 at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport.
Rite of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 4097-18th St. Bettendorf. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-p.m. to 8-p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave. Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post # 246. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or M.S. St. Louis Chapter.
Jim was born July 27, 1931 in Chicago to James Edward and Mary (Bain) Murphy, Sr. He married Sandra Barr on May 27, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Jim was employed as an inventory management specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal retiring in 1996. Prior to that, he worked in the major appliance business with Whirlpool and Klaus Radio in Davenport.
Jim was an Air Force veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. He was a former member of the Moline Elks and a social member of the Moline Vikings Club. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Notre Dame and Iowa Hawkeye Fan.
