James Thomas "Jim" Perry, Sr. age 75, of East Moline, died Monday, June 2, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 at Wildwood Baptist Church, 18717 Hubbard Road, East Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline or Trinity Pathway Hospice.
Jim was born December 9, 1932 in Albia, IA, the son of James Thomas and Beryl (Sheldon) Perry. Jim graduated from Alwood High School and went on to serve as a sergeant in the Air Force from 1956-1960. He later attended Black Hawk College. He married Carolyn Orey on January 20, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. They later became members of Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline.
Jim was a Supervisor with John Deere Harvester Experimental, where he was an Assembly & Field Test Coordinator in the Product Engineering Department. Jim traveled all over the United States during his 30 years at Deere. He retired July 31, 1987.
He later obtained his real estate license in 1988 and served as Hampton Township Assessor from 1990-1998, where he received his CIOA license.
Jim enjoyed fishing and vacationing with his family in Minnesota. He and his wife designed two homes that they had built. Jim loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known as a loving and generous man.
