James "Swede" Harold Swanson, 66, of Colona, IL, died Friday, February 20, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus, Davenport, IA.
Yesterday Heaven heard the roar of a Harley, the Man on the Bike had flowing hair of white and a beard to match. When he stopped at the gate, boots on the ground, sunglasses pulled up on his head, piercing blue eyes. The Viking had come home. The Eagle whom followed bowed his head and spread his majestic wings and flew home in his spirit to protect his Family. To our brother, neighbor, Vietnam Vet, mostly family. God Speed. Author: David & Denise Muse.
A memorial event will be held at a later time. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Swede was born on March 9, 1948, in Moline the son of Harold A. and Loraine A. Devilder Swanson. He married Tammy Wallen on August 7, 2001, in Sturgis, South Dakota. He was employed with the John Deere Industrial Davenport Works for over 30 years and a member of the U.A.W. Local 281.
Swede was a Vietnam Veteran and a very patriotic man who was proud of his service to his country. He was also a member of the Geneseo V.F.W. He loved the outdoors, hunting, camping and fishing both during the summer and the winter. Swede loved working with his hands, whether he was fixing something or building it from scratch; he could do it all and never met a challenge he couldn't tackle. Above all he loved his family and friends and riding his motorcycle with his wife next to his side.
