Jessie R Boyd

Jessie R. Boyd, 87, formerly of Colona, IL, passed away Tuesday November 28, 2023, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  The visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  The burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.  Memorials may be made to Colona Fire Department or The Gathering Church, Moline.

Jessie was born on October 16, 1936, in Moline, the daughter of Harry C. and Brentice “Peggy” (McGregor) Gray. She married Everett F. Boyd on October 14, 1956, in Silvis. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2013. She was chairman or co-chairman of the 1954 UTHS Class Reunion since graduation and loved keeping up with her former classmates. From 1954-1980, Jessie worked as a secretary for the Rock Island Lines for just under 25 years. She also worked at United Township High School for 13 years from 1980-1993. Jessie was a member of Heritage Church in Rock Island, being part of the Heritage Soul Sisters at the church. She was also a member and former treasurer of the Colona Lioness Club. Jessie most recently attended The Gathering Church. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking, playing golf, and attending her grandkids’ sporting events and socializing with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons Doug (Jennifer) Boyd, Davenport, and Dean (Karen) Boyd, Camdenton, Missouri; grandchildren Jami (Brad) Weinzierl, Geneseo, Christopher Boyd, Denver, Danielle (Aaron) Olszeski, Friendswood, TX, Keegan (Jared) Gravert, Davenport; 5 great-grandchildren, Jaden, Kye, Cole, Boyd, Sutton; sister, Jackie Martens, Davenport; brother, Charlie Gray, Moline; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Everett; nephew, Christopher Gray; sister, Nancy Ambrozi.
