Joan Elaine Schaefer, 81, of Moline, IL, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1450 30th Avenue, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Joan was born on July 15, 1931, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of William and Harriet (Andresen) Ehlers. She married Earl John Frederick Schaefer on April 15, 1989, at St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline, IL, where she was a member. In 1948, she graduated high school in Davenport, IA, and in 1963 she attended Winona School of Professional Photography at Winona Lake, IN. She later worked for Haines Photography Studio and then for Paul's Photography. Joan had a collection of Isabel Bloom figurines. She and her husband loved traveling together and spending their winters in Florida. Joan was a very stylish lady who would only drive convertible cars. In her younger days she was a model for Kaiser Frazer Car Company. Joan had a great love for dogs.
