John F. Collins, 95, of Moline, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be Noon, Monday, December 9, 2019, at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Those wishing to attend should meet at 11:15 a.m. on Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, to process to the cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to Memorial Sloan Kettering.
John was born on January 9, 1924, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of John H. and Clara Langhorst Collins. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at the University of Illinois. He was a proud Illini alumi. John later graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in Engineering Management. He married Marilynn Carey in November of 1950, in Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2016.
John was president of J. F. Collins Associates, a Human Resource Consulting Firm. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in W.W. II from 1943-1945. During his service John was held as a P.O.W. in Germany. He was a member of the Flossmoor Community Church. John enjoyed the outdoors, taking daily walks, playing tennis, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his daughters, Allison (Jim) McCarthy, and Cynthia (Brad) Baldwin; grandchildren, Mark (Olivia) Baldwin, Madeline McCarthy, and Meredith McCarthy.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
