John M. Gardner, Jr., 67, of Colona, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus.
Visitation will be from 4:00 ~ 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Funeral services will be held at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lawton, Oklahoma. Burial will be held in Fort Sill Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
John was born on June 17, 1943 in Wiggins, Mississippi to John and Essie Simmons Gardner. He married Joan Hale on August 31, 1981 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
John served in the Air Force and Army; retiring in 1985 after 24 years of service. He then worked at the Lawton Goodyear Tire & Rubber for 7 ½ years in Lawton, Oklahoma. After retiring, he had served as a lay pastor until 2001.
